Each tech not only has a voiced quote that fleshes out the relevant leader who voices it, but has an extra blurb detailing the theoretical applications of the tech. The differing leaders with colorful personalities and strong agendas perfectly sets the scene for both conflict and friendship. Normal Civ games kind of ride off of history for that backbone but AC had to craft it from scratch. While each leader is an over the top caricature, they are also full of character and have realized goals/personalities. To put things in perspective, AC probably has the most amazing story/lore density/atmosphere out of all the future-civ games I've played. I didn't expect BE to have the same dark atmosphere and cynical outlook on humanity's future that AC had of course, but what I wanted out of BE was a lot more lore.
